This glossary defines terms used commonly in the policies in this library. Individual policies may include definitions of their own specialized terms.
Applicability: Parties to whom a policy applies
Approval Authority: The power of an individual to approve contracts or other commitments.
Background: Information that provides context and/or explains why there is a need for a policy
Definitions: Explanations of terms that have particular meanings or require interpretation related to a policy
Policy: A chosen course of action -- reflecting SUNY Buffalo State requirements, standards or values -- to guide and determine present and future decisions
Policy Statement: Key statement of college’s position; statement of what SUNY Buffalo State requires, adheres to, or holds as its standards and values
Policy Template: Standardized form used for presenting policies
Procedure: Detailed statement of how a policy will be put into effect
Responsibility: Duty or obligation. In the policy template: titles of parties (entities or individuals) responsible for carrying out policy, with their duties described.
